Music Team

Conductor: Phyllis Boyd

Phyllis was appointed as conductor in May 2007. She received her musical education at Methodist College and Queen's University Belfast. Since then, she has been involved in many aspects of the choral scene, from Church Music to Light Opera, both vocally and, to a greater degree, as an accompanist, a field where she felt very much at home.

Phyllis has worked with many other choirs, both school and adult, and many soloists, both instrumental and vocal - including the late Brendan O'Dowda and Aled Jones.

In 1998 she was appointed conductor of the Downshire Ladies' Choir, a post which she still holds. She feels very honoured to be the conductor of Ballyclare Male Choir with which she has very strong family links as well as being called upon, on rare occasions to be accompanist.

Accompanist and Deputy Conductor: Rosemary Basher LRAM ALCM LGSM (MT)

Rosemary became the choir accompanist in 1987 and since 1999 has been the Deputy Conductor. She is a peripatetic instrumental tutor for the North East Education and Library Board and even finds time to give piano lessons in her own home.

A dedicated and popular member of the choir, Rosemary also provides additional support during sectional rehearsals, in her role as Deputy Conductor. In her many years with the choir it is hard to remember when she last missed a rehearsal or performance.
